 Post subject: Islam vs. Democracy

Democracy means people's ruling, Islam means God's ruling, this is the basic conflict between the two:

48. And We have sent down to you (O Muhammad ) the Book (this Qur'an) in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and Mohayminan (trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old Scriptures). So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away from the truth that has come to you. To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allah willed, He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test you in what He has given you; so strive as in a race in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah; then He will inform you about that in which you used to differ.

49. . And so judge (you O Muhammad ) between them by what Allah has revealed and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they turn you (O Muhammad ) far away from some of that which Allah has sent down to you. And if they turn away, then know that Allah's Will is to punish them for some sins of theirs. And truly, most people are Fasiqun (rebellious and disobedient to Allah).

50. Do they then seek the judgement of (the Days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgement than Allah for a people who have firm Faith.
The Noble Quran : Surat Al-Ma'idah (Chapter 5)

Democracy is established on the majority of votes; however in the Quran the majority is always condemned, see the bolded text above "most people are rebellious" and below "the most will mislead you".

114. [Say (O Muhammad )] "Shall I seek a judge other than Allah while it is He Who has sent down unto you the Book (The Qur'an), explained in detail." Those unto whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] know that it is revealed from your Lord in truth. So be not you of those who doubt.

115. And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the AllHearer, the AllKnower.

116. And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie.
The Noble Quran : Surat Al-An'am (Chapter 6)

There are many verses in the Quran that refers to the majority as misguidance, rebellious, disbelief, etc. I don't want to make this post too long.

There is a concept in Islam called Ash-Shura (mutual consultation) in fact that's a Surah (chapter) name, many people confuse it with democracy, the following verse praises the believers who:

38. And those who answer the Call of their Lord [i.e. to believe that He is the only One Lord (Allah), and to worship none but Him Alone], and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and who (conduct) their affairs by mutual consultation, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them;
The Noble Quran : Surat Ash-Shura (Chapter 42)

The following verse orders the prophet (peace be upon him) to consult his companions.

159. And by the Mercy of Allah, you (Muhammad) dealt with them gently. And had you been severe and harshhearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allah's) Forgiveness for them; and consult them in the affairs. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).
The Noble Quran : Surat al-'Imran (Chapter 3)

Major differences between Shura and democracy:
- Shura is only in lawful things, ex: I could consult my family what to eat however pork isn't an option.
- Shura isn't for ignorant about the subject, ex: in health matters only doctors should be consulted not engineers
- The final decision is always for the leader not the majority of votes.
